Hailing from Newcastle Upon Tyne are the UK's up-and-coming modern metal and hard rock band 'When Hope Dies'. Formed in 2023, they are well on their way to leaving a striking mark on the world of modern, heavier rock music with their debut EP "The Darkness Descends".

A HOPE FOR MODERN ROCK MUSIC

Contrary to their name, the newcomers of When Hope Dies demonstrate that they have what it takes and the guts to become a beacon of hope for the English metal scene. Listening to the lead single The Darkness Descends, it becomes clear that a band is at work here that knows its craft.

Built on a solid foundation of powerful bass guitars and dynamic drums in medium tempo, the band unfolds its musical potential, which is characterized by dexterity and compositional inspiration.

As we move the second track The Reapers Dance we’re hit with a guitar riff that has us instantly banging our heads. The outstanding vocal performance combined with the heavy drum beat brings us an exciting piece which drills home the meaning of life and how we all dance with the reaper eventually!

Under blackened skies is the third track on the album. This showcases the true flexibility of the lead vocalist. A ballad which is cleverly written. The official lyric video on YouTube really brings the music to life as we see the darkness of war. The lyrics ‘bathed in blood, under blackened skies’ really hit home and show the bands ability to create a highly emotional piece which we were not expecting.

As we come to the end of the Ep with the final track Your Card is Marked, we are hit with a simple but satisfying tight riff which then leads into a highly charged piece dealing with the nature of revenge. The backing vocals really feature on this track and create a dark and vicious atmosphere.

When Hope Dies offer a darkly energetic spectacle that not only convinces with the technical skills of these newcomers, but also captivates with a sound that sounds fresh and energetic.
