Bellicose
Bellicose are a 5 piece, hardcore band from New York, USA. Formed in 2023, the debut EP brings with it a range of influence from modern acts like Knocked Loose to classic staples such as Sick of it All and Bad Brains. Their debut EP “Modern Mammal” brings a wide range of lyrical themes within the 3 tracks that touch on emotional pain and the dehumanising effects of technology on humanity.
We dive straight in with their first release, and it starts off with “Born to Lose”. This is a brutal as it gets! The song begins with a breakdown in the first 20 seconds and never seems to relent. We progress with sonic assaults into more breakdowns that only get better as the song progresses with an exceptional riff towards the end of the song. This will be a staple of the pit and it goes so hard, a banger to kick us off.
We’re ****ing Parasites!
Following up is already a hard task after that banger however you’ll be pleasantly surprised to hear “Bound to The Bone” hits that threshold. Bound to The Bone is more a fast-paced assault you’d expect in hardcore with some more great breakdowns; it’s like a sledgehammer to the face.
Last track of “Modern Mammal” and we have “Mental Wealth”. The song’s lyrics hit just as hard as the track itself with its unrelenting percussion assault complimented with the incredible riffs that continue throughout the EP.
We’re treated to some absolutely meaty breakdowns in this track with a thundering bass tone to round everything and fit so thematically with the lyrical theme where grief and mental health are at the forefront.
What an introduction to the lads from New York, we’ve been treated with some powerful riffs, pounding drums rounding out with an aggressive and passionate vocal display. Thoroughly recommend you check these boys out.
