From The Grave - Around the Fire
Officially founded in 2006, From the Grave is a progressive southern metal experiment that blends sinister and phantasmic tones with haunting riffs. This touring and recording trio of cosmic doom consists of front man Heath Thomas on lead guitar/vocals, Taylor Kimbrell on bass, and Michael Mangum on drums. Much of From the Grave's music is inspired by life experiences, film, literature, and original poetry. From the Grave pairs well with artists such as Opeth, Black Sabbath, Pantera, and Type O Negative.
We decided to explore "From the Grave" single "Around the Fire" as our first foray into their music. Straight off the bat with "The Crucible" you can hear the 'Sabbath influence in the song taking you on a slow groove filled masterpiece, the vocals complimenting the track perfectly as it seamlessly flows through. The guitar solo towards the end of the track is something special, a great opening track to the single.

Next we're heading to "Left Face Down" and the vocals continue to impress with the range on show, we were in for a harsher rendition on this track and it suited it perfectly. The bass line resonating through the slower parts of the track where you can really appreciate the skill on show. Another great track, we're thoroughly impressed by what the Oklahoma based outfit has shown us so far.
Last but not least, we encounter "Take Up Snakes". With an incredible catchy riff not long into the track, you'll be headbanging along to the track within seconds. 3 great tracks on show and with another 2 albums for us to indulge on (with another set to be released in the coming year!) we have plenty to keep us entertained.
Final Thoughts
