BROKEN STATES

Broken States are a 5 piece band from the UK based across four separate counties - Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire! They’ve been together in a settled line-up for quite a few months now, and have recently started gigging.

A HOPE FOR MODERN METAL

We checked out their debut single ‘History’. It’s worth mentioning the quality of the music video which is top class.

The track starts off with some pinched harmonics, then moves into a heavy galloping riff which gets you warmed up for the absolute brutal riffs to come. They hit you like a sledgehammer to the head! I can see this track being a mosh pit starter!

The vocals are a perfect mix of ferociousness but clean enough to understand, a balance which many vocalists struggle with, but not here! The clean sections are reminiscent of ‘light the torch’s’ Howard Jones (formerly Killswitch Engage).

‘Broken States’ offer a darkly energetic spectacle that not only convinces with the technical skills of these newcomers, but also captivates with a sound that’s fresh, brutal and melodic.

WHIPLASH INDUCING RIFFS

What distinguishes the modern metal from the pen of ‘Broken States’ is their ability to write a catchy song that stick in the memory at the first listen. It leaves you wanting more.

After the second chorus we have a demon-like breakdown which leads into some spoken lyrics and a beautiful section of acoustic guitar.

This track really does have a bit of everything and it’s obvious that ‘Broken States’ have mastered their style. ‘History’ is a testament to the verstility and sheer talent these guys have. This is going straight onto our ‘HOT TRACKS’ section and onto our playlist.

OUR CONCLUSION:

‘Broken States’ have hit it out the park with this track, it’s a must for every metal fan. We can’t wait to see what the future holds and look forward to seeing them live as soon as possible.
